The Gilded Gladitorium's Paragon of The Six Nations will be given a grand trophy.
Story
Bards tell a tale in crowded taverns and on street corners.Upon the conclusion of The Gilded Gladitorium's first tournament, mercenary socialite Tilda Oake challenged the venue's owner, Lucas Rajan, to let Ala Mhigans fight for the glory of their homeland. For too long, she said, Ul'dah had filled its fighting pits with Ala Mhigans all the while treating them like dirt. Perhaps Ul'dah felt it necessary to abuse the champions from Tilda's homeland because its own were not worthy.Unwilling to allow his beloved Ul'dah to be so insulted without answer, Lucas challenged Tilda to call for the finest fighters from her home to gather for a tournament. He would call for those from Ul'dah to prove their superiority, and invite the other city states to join in the proving grounds.Long have the city states of Eorzea tested each other's mettle in such settings in order to be ready to face invaders. Many questions linger. Which city state shall be proven the mightier this time? It is said Lucas Rajan fought for Ala Mhigo's liberation — does he have a soft spot for Ul'dah's ally? Lucas and Tilda recently cooperated to aid in Ishgard's reconstruction, but they have been seen quarreling — has something come between the daughter of Ala Mhigo and the son of Ul'dah? It is said Cassandra Porter, Lucas' mistress, is working to keep the peace between Lucas and Tilda.Whatever the case, it will be up to the fighters to come out on top for the glory of their homes!
Participate
This ongoing event will need:
- Fighters
- Coaches
- Bards
- Sponsors
- A crowd! To sign up for the first three roles, contact Lucas Rajan in game or reach out to him on Discord as MithrilDM#6221.
Fighters
You can't have a tournament without fighters. And we have all our fighters!~~We'll need fighters loyal to each city state to participate in that city state's tournament. The winner will participate in the final tournament as well. So if you sign up to fight, make sure you can also attend the final tournament! ~~Should a champion be unable to make the final tournament, the second-place winner will step in.Fighters should not be in bad standing with the nation they want to fight for. But maybe they can be if it would be a good story. Chat with Lucas OOC!
Coaches
We need coaches who love their homeland! One is needed for each city state. The coaches will be responsible for making sure their city state's fighters are all ready to go the day of that city state's tournament. They will then act as an adviser to their city state's champion leading up to the final tournament.Coaches will also help organize some twists to the tournament format later on.
Bards
No bards came forward!~~Nations are about more than their fighters. ~~To be a bard, simply write an original song (as long or short as you like) about a winner of any city state tournament. Submit it to Lucas Rajan. Then attend the final tournament. The best song submitted by a bard at the final tournament will be selected. The bard will then be invited to perform the song during the tournament. Perhaps it will help inspire your champion!
Sponsors
We'd like to have a few sponsors to add a bit of levity to the tournament. Does your IC business want to be a sponsor? We could have a fun commercial announcement during the tournaments! Also, this is a good way to explain where prize money and supplies come from.Sponsors wouldn't have to contribute anything OOC. This is just a fun way to promote other RP establishments. Just let Lucas Rajan know OOC if this sounds fun!
Schedule
We'll schedule two tournaments per Sunday. Each city state tournament will be separate, and competitors won't face each other... yet!- Sunday, June 28, 3 p.m. EST: Ul'dah tournament and Ala Mhigo tournament
- Sunday, July 12, 3 p.m. EST: Gridania tournament and Ishgard tournament
- Sunday, July 26, 3 p.m. EST: Limsa Lominsa tournament and Doma tournament
- Sunday, Aug. 9, 3 p.m. EST: Grand Melee
Combat rules
These rules will aim primarily to do three things: keep it simple for fighters and referees, move things along quickly, and let the roleplayers focus on making the fight fun and engaging despite any rolls.Below is a "big picture," "combat rules" and "final tournament" section. Please read them all if you want to be a fighter in the tournament!
Big picture organization
Two city state tournaments will be held at the same time. Each tournament will be to select a city state champion. As a result, there won't be any competition between fighters of different cities — yet. Each tournament will have an even number of participants. Brackets will be built on 1v1 matches and be single-elimination brackets. We will try to run as many 1v1 matches as possible at once to keep the event from dragging on too long. However, the final match of each tournament will take place without other matches happening. Each 1v1 will be in a party with a referee for the /dice rolls.
Combat rules
Combat will flow as follows:
- Each fighter will /dice to see who attacks on the first round.
- Each round involves an attack /dice and a defense /dice. If the attacker rolls higher, they hit.
- If the defender doubles the attacker's roll, they counter and land a hit.
- Each round will be: Attacker does /dice -> defender does /dice -> Attacker posts in /em or /say how they attack -> defender posts in /em or /say how they defend and how it's all resolved. Then the next round begins and the roles reverse.
- Three hits wins a match. A referee will call the win based on 3 hits. The goal of this round flow is to make it so that at the start of each round, each fighter knows the result of their attack and defense. The desired result of this is to allow both fighters to focus on making the moment dramatic and exciting, and make it so they can make each other look cool instead of it being "oh, haha, you rolled bad so your attack misses, you suck."Everyone should OOC strive to make the other fighter come out looking cool. That way no one walks away feeling bad OOC.
The Final Tournament
The final tournament will be structured differently than the other tournaments, but the format will be announced later, both OOC and IC.The rules will be the same. However, one bard will be allowed to sing about one of the competitors in the final tournament. The bard invited to sing will be the bard who submits the best song! The competitor sung about in this manner will be able to reroll a /dice ONE TIME in the final tournament.
